SCENE 1

(Lights up. There are two desks facing each other centre stage—not parallel, making an inverted V from the audience’s POV. HABERLEA sits behind the desk on the right, and MASSONIA sits behind the desk on the left. Facing them, with his back to the audience, is POLLIN—making the base of the triangle. He’s sitting on a swivel chair so that he can easily turn and talk to each interviewer, and the audience will be able to see him side on. The colour of the walls and the furniture behind each desk are noticeably different&

MASSONIA
Could you tell me a little about yourself..? Why you think you would be suitable for the job..?

POLLIN
Well, I was born on Aspidistra Minor. Had my first office job there. Bit of filing, bit of hand-to-hand combat. From there I went to Anemone’s Moon, then to Gladiolus and to Nasturtium. After gaining a lot of basic experience I decided to train as a sharpshooter—“sniping and typing”, as we used to call it. But that sort of work’s a bit thin on the ground now, and anyway the companies prefer younger shooters. Er, that’s it. I’ve travelled around a lot looking for suitable work. Thought I’d give Earth a try.

Third Place: GuinevereToGwen

LENORE
I don't remember much from my childhood.

BLAKE
Memory only starts to develop at around age three, right?

LENORE
No, I mean after that. Every time I think of a time before I was about ten, my mind draws a blank. There's nothing.

Individual Scene

First Place: SCFrankles
Scene 1 of: Knickerbocker Glory
In this scene, SCFrankles creatively introduces us to the protagonist and foreshadows his moonlighting ways. It also reveals his unconventional life partner...

Second Place: GuinevereToGwen
Scene 5 of To Be A Dinglebody
In this scene, GuinevereToGwen shows the inevitable choices of the play's two leads, who strive between courage and cowardice in making new lives or retreading old patterns.

Third Place: LadyTana
Scene 2 of For the Betterment of Society
In this scene, LadyTana moves us at a quick clip through the investigation of a young woman's murder, leading up to the capture of a possible suspect.
