Every week, we collect and feature the outstanding submissions to our gallery. If you're looking for quality literature to read, start here!

Each item is hand-picked by our admins and presented with a small introduction (we think this makes browsing literature easier). We don't seek perfection: we just choose interesting work and share it for critique, appreciation and encouragement.

Welcome to this week's Weekly Roundup!  It's been a bit of a slow week here at WritersInk, but we haven't seen a lack of quality.  Some fantastic pieces await this week, so why not take a peak at these hand-picked selections?

Thicker Than Water by LookingGlassInk

All is not what it seems in this breakneck tragedy.

Our members have already been vocal in support of this short story - which is wonderful to see, because LookingGlassInk is a new member who has left a lot of very positive feedback himself. Just the sort of thing we like to see. It's a pleasure to be able to feature this piece about loyalty, love and companionship.

I Don't Want To Be A Flower by Kymira12

An easy to read poem about nature, inner strength and grace.

Flowers are typically seen as paragons of femininity and beauty - but not in this original piece! Kymira12 has produced a wonderful subversion of traditional romantic tropes, but done so without confusing or intimidating the reader.

Be Treated by Dreamydeb

A thoughtful poem about illness and treatment.

How do you feel when you read this piece? Do you relate to the spiritual malaise or the background-radiation levels of guilt? Do you think about whether the prescription is fit to the disease, or do you think about uncaring doctors?

Dark Side of Iapetus by laurotica

It's an eight-hour flight to Iapetus - but amongst the rings of Saturn is something well worth waiting for.

A proper sci-fi story set amongst the moons of Saturn. By anchoring the story in the themes of our everyday life - such looking forward to the weekend or worrying about whether your workplace will survive the summer - it's very easy to relate to and warm to the characters. The background of space becomes an interesting context for a story, rather than the dominant feature. For a story set in zero-gravity, this is suprisingly well-grounded fiction.

We Are Recruiting!

We're looking for a bright-eyed individual to join our Administration team and make the literature community a better place!

The open position is for a Literature Scout to help up compile these Round-ups every week. We'd like someone who can make one or two suggestions per week to our internal discussions.

This is a volunteer position and we won't ask for more time than you can freely give. Our admins are rewarded with community prestige (something you can't buy!), and occasional dedicated features.

We'll consider pretty much anyone for the role (no prior admin experience required!), and you're welcome to join for a week and see if you enjoy it. Candidates would ideally be over eighteen and be able to spare us a couple of hours per week - but that's not essential!

If you're interested or have any questions, please send monstroooo a note!

Write Off Round Up!

Over the weekend, WritersInk held it's very first Write Off - a chatroom based game where members must produce literature from a random prompt in a very short time limit.

It proved to be a huge success! You can read the official debrief here. Our admins are currently trying to choose four items to produce a shortlist - which we'll ask you to vote a winner for in a few days!

We'll be planning another Write Off for June - watch this space!

Community News

:bulletblack: Congratulations to CJWilde, who received a DD for her story Prey!

:bulletblack: DodgingTheBeat's clever story Lament for Cabbie has been given a DLD, and made pick of the day!

:bulletblack: The DLD team also found some love for LucienJay's touching piece Brothers.

:bulletblack: Have you received a DD or DLD for a piece in our gallery? Send the group a note and let us know!
