Each item is hand-picked by our admins and presented with a small introduction (we think this makes browsing literature easier). We don't seek perfection: we just choose interesting work and share it for critique, appreciation and encouragement.

This Week's Highlights

A Kappa Named Cucumber by JiaLi

A little boy goes down to the river to play, laden with a bucket, an umbrella (for it's been raining all week), and some cucumber sandwiches. What he finds beneath the water will stay with him forever...

An absolutely charming children's story. It's well-written, easy to read, and hard not to fall in love with. After all, Haven't we all wanted a Kappa when we were growing up?

"The best part I think, is when you're a writer and in the middle of a huge writer's block, but you can sit down and spend DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS reading other people's writing, and maybe, just maybe, a few ideas spark in your brain, and before you know it you are writing until your hands hurt."

we could've been like lovers in a parody: "I love you, I love you—no, I don't. But you are beautiful."

Some loves may not set the world on fire, but perhaps the poetry left in their wake might. Where would the greatest of authors be without a little heartbreak behind them? Here's a piece where a young and talented author bares her soul. We think it's a sure-fire hit!

We love our old deviations just as much as our new ones. From time to time, we like pull out an old gem that's been lost in the depths of our gallery and feature it in this space.

Altered Vision by SalvaVeritate

Alexa wakes up to a world of pain and instantly begins piecing together where she is, and how she got there.

An engaging and mysterious thriller. It's sort of a slow-burner: from an intriguing start, the story moves along at its own patient pace. Nothing is revealed too quickly, but the reader's interest is still maintained by a constant barrage of little questions. It boasts a lovely balance of quiet humour and subtle tension, which lend the whole thing a touch of class.
