Every week, we collect and feature the outstanding submissions to our gallery. If you're looking for quality literature to read, start here!

Each item is hand-picked by our admins and presented with a small introduction (we think this makes browsing literature easier). We don't seek perfection: we just choose interesting work and share it for critique, appreciation and encouragement.

WritersInk feels loved this week. And you should feel loved, too! Why? Because of the many reasons to love dA Lit. Here's one of our favourites:

"The Lit Community makes me feel accepted in a way I've never felt before. People come to know me through my writing, which is the most authentic part of myself"

This Week's Highlights

A Kappa Named Cucumber by JiaLi

A little boy goes down to the river to play, laden with a bucket, an umbrella (for it's been raining all week), and some cucumber sandwiches. What he finds beneath the water will stay with him forever...

An absolutely charming children's story. It's well-written, easy to read, and hard not to fall in love with. After all, Haven't we all wanted a Kappa when we were growing up?

"The best part I think, is when you're a writer and in the middle of a huge writer's block, but you can sit down and spend DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS reading other people's writing, and maybe, just maybe, a few ideas spark in your brain, and before you know it you are writing until your hands hurt."

where i dance alone by flummo

we could've been like lovers in a parody: "I love you, I love you—no, I don't. But you are beautiful."

Some loves may not set the world on fire, but perhaps the poetry left in their wake might. Where would the greatest of authors be without a little heartbreak behind them? Here's a piece where a young and talented author bares her soul. We think it's a sure-fire hit!

"I have never known any other group of artists to be so polite. Many of the writers here of deviantART take time off just to reply personally to your comment [...] They take a moment just to appreciate you and work together as a group."

A poem about writing freely.

With a smooth, natural rhythm, gentle humour and carefree whimsy, this poem is simply a pleasure to read.

"the dA Lit community helped me to get published for the first time. If that isn't reason to love em, then what is?"

From the Archive

We love our old deviations just as much as our new ones. From time to time, we like pull out an old gem that's been lost in the depths of our gallery and feature it in this space.

Altered Vision by SalvaVeritate

Alexa wakes up to a world of pain and instantly begins piecing together where she is, and how she got there.

An engaging and mysterious thriller. It's sort of a slow-burner: from an intriguing start, the story moves along at its own patient pace. Nothing is revealed too quickly, but the reader's interest is still maintained by a constant barrage of little questions. It boasts a lovely balance of quiet humour and subtle tension, which lend the whole thing a touch of class.

Community News

:bulletpink: We're still recruiting! We're looking for someone to help us build these Round-ups each week. If you can read quickly and want to help out the literature community, please send monstroooo a note.

"It really is a community working to help others and to improve, and not just a bunch of narcissists posting their stories for praise and pageviews."

:bulletpink: Think you'd make a great lit critic?  Well we may just have the activity for you. inknalcohol is running a community project aimed at generating more feedback for writers.
Why not take a look? There are point prizes on offer!  All you have to do is critique one of three pieces from a fellow writer.

For more information, please visit this journal
Thanks to inknalcohol for the info!

"Knowing that at any given time of day. there is someone who might be reading my words gives me such motivation to keep going and keep improving."

:bulletpink: The lovely quotes you see littered around this week's Round-up have been borrowed from  HugQueen's Reasons to Love dA's Lit Community article parts one and two. It really is an inspiring read - take five minutes out of your day and stop to appreicate just how wonderful this community is

:bulletpink: TheMeadiator has an interesting questionnaire for any poential or published novelists to answer. Go ahead and share some of the best (and worst!) things about your own writing, just visit her journal :eager:
