Every week, we collect and feature the outstanding submissions to our gallery. If you're looking for quality literature to read, start here!

Each item is hand-picked by our admins and presented with a small introduction (we think this makes browsing literature easier). We don't seek perfection: we just choose interesting work and share it for critique, appreciation and encouragement.

Once again it's been a busy week as we approach good old May.  Exams and final projects have kept many deviants busy but that hasn't stopped our writers and poets producing some high quality work for you to enjoy!

I did not save her from the sea by williamszm

"I met her then, when stormy waves
Were breaking on her weary mind
And I was unafraid and brave"

An almost ethereal piece tinged with an underlying sense of remorse. williamszm produces some hauntingly beautiful imagery of the sea and its many mysterious facets, you can almost feel the ebb and flow of the ocean intertwined in the words.

12 by forestmeetwildfire

"peter pan and i have
some sort of understanding."

The connection with the innocent and unreal fantasy, and the real material present is superb. This brief meeting with a character, who for so many symbolises carefree childhood fantasy, is handled with the subtle more down-to-earth undertones of realism in the description of him as a character.
forestmeetwildfire does an excellent job in parting the veil between what is fantasy, and what could, in essence, be a real-life encounter with a real-life person.

Sethan and Conrad by GentlemanAnachronism

Saddle-sore and drenched from the rain, two sellswords try to decide what to do about their poorly-disguised charge.

Sethan blames it all on the boogie in this fantasy short. Inspired by the heroic songs of bards, an escaped princess* has brought Sethan a whole world of problems which he didn't need. The dialog is razor sharp in this story which tells the other side of the undercover heroine's journey.

*Or possibly just a nobleman's daughter

From the Archive!

We love our old deviations just as much as our new ones. From time to time, we pull out an old gem that's been lost in the depths of our gallery and feature it in this space. These tend to be rare highlights from the gallery - sometimes we've featured them before, but each one is a highly recommended read.

The Fountain by disrhythmic

Under the gaze of eight masked men, she approaches the fountain, recalling her past and trying not to anticipate her future.

Past and present dovetail as beautifully as mathematics and mysticism in this short, deeply enigmatic read. There's a story of an arcane cult, human sacrifice, and one bitch of an inheritance all buried in this nightmare-fuelled story.

Community News

:bulletblack: WARNING: there's an epidemic of 'real life' going around :paranoid:

A huge thank you to  Drakonadyhanie who has been with us since the turn of the year. He's been part of our Literature Scout team, helping to build our Weekly Round-up. Sadly, he's been claimed by real world responsibilities and is leaving the admin team - thanks for everything, Drak!

:bulletblack: But don't be disheartened, brave readers, for we have two new volunteers to help run the group! Welcome to our new Lit Scout williamszm and our new Gallery Moderator xlntwtch! We're very grateful to both members for agreeing to spare us some of their time :)

:bulletblack: It just keeps getting better for Meggie272 - two weeks ago her story You've Got To Hide Your Love Away was featured in our Weekly Round-up. Last week she received a DLD. This week she's burst out of the literature community with a DD - congratulations, Meggie!

:bulletblack: Congratulations too to poetic for getting a DD for everyone is a sociopath with a vitamin deficiency, a poem which is surely worth the DD for the title alone!

:bulletblack: And as ever, the busy :icondailylitdeviations: community has featured some work from our members:

:pointr:  LadySkylar for an her Story Change (which then went on to receive a DD! Wowsers!)

:pointr: enigmaticsmile for his story Living Anticipation!

Have you received a DLD or a DD this week? Let us know and we'll feature you in this space.
