Every week, we collect and feature the outstanding submissions to our gallery. If you're looking for quality literature to read, start here!

Each item is hand-picked by our admins and presented with a small introduction (we think this makes browsing literature easier). We don't seek perfection: we just choose interesting work and share it for critique, appreciation and encouragement.

We've got two flavours of hell for you this week: from the depths of the underworld to the frozen ruin of war-torn Stalingrad. Plus we've got a love story (as usual :grump:), a total bonkers jaunt into madnness, and more news than you shake a Ron Burgundy at.

This Week's Highlights!

:star:

How I Became Blind by Stingtings

A man wakes up one morning to discover that his brother's turned purple, the news anchor's turned red, and his new friend's turned yellow. A rainbow of colors paints every person's skin, but our man quickly realizes he's the only one that can see it.

Through this unorthodox tale, Stingtings expands upon an idea both simple and intriguing: a literal take on the skin colors that separate us. If you're desperate for something a bit different, this is probably where you should start!

the anguish of the sky. by momo-madness

A tale of timeless love is written across the sky.

Beautifully opulent imagery really stands out in this poem. Humanity has been writing poetry about the sun and sky for thousands of years, and yet momo-madness has managed to find a unique angle here. We love it!

Into Hell by BrokenTales

After weeks of effort and sacrifice, Adam stands at the gates of Hell. Gathering his courage, he enters in search of his wife.

There's great imagination and tragedy in this creative short story. Its crowning achievement is probably its ending, which leaves the reader well satisfied.

A Fond Farewell

We're sad to announce this week that one of our longest-serving admins, kittykittyhunter, will be stepping down from her role as Literature Scout.

Kitty has been a vital member of the team, particularly in the early days when the group was still trying to establish how best to serve the literature community. She really contributed to policies which still define the group today; and has long been useful in compiling the Weekly Round-ups that are so important to us.

You can thank her for her time by checking out her gallery, including this excellent story which has won just about every honour there is!

Kitty has moved on to dedicate more time to world domination her duties over at RawEm0tion. Thank you for helping us out for so long!

From the Archive!

We love our old deviations just as much as our new ones. From time to time, we pull out an old gem that's been lost in the depths of our gallery and feature it in this space. These tend to be rare highlights from the gallery - sometimes we've featured them before, but each one is a highly recommended read.

Scruple by henryruss

Amidst the snow and rubble of Stalingrad, Russia, in the second world war, Aleksey struggles for survival. This generals have cast him in the supporting role of a sniper's spotter, but fate has other plans.

A historical story told with a great sense of atmosphere and authenticity. The Russian front is a left-of-centre setting, but it also proves a tense and exciting one. A story of a sniper prowling the ruined city is married beautifully with musing on the place of morality in war - an all-round excellent read.
