Every week, we collect and feature the outstanding submissions to our gallery. If you're looking for quality literature to read, start here!

Each item is hand-picked by our admins and presented with a small introduction (we think this makes browsing literature easier). We don't seek perfection: we just choose interesting work and share it for critique, appreciation and encouragement.

From the plain-spoken story of a woman forced to work the streets at night, to a poem exploring mortality and the value of company, this week we bring you four great pieces that speak about decay and the ugly side of life.

The Week's Highlights!

Street by August-Green

A camera crew can do little more than stand by and watch as a woman tries to tell her story.

This is fine example of how a minimalist style can add emotional poignancy and realism to a piece. August-Green doesn't embellish the piece - the narrative is so stark that it's little more than a transcript. But the story speaks for itself with a loud and clear voice.

Haiku #5 Hotondo hana by tisserande-d-encre

Haiku is a specialized form that many try, but few utilize effectively. Evoking emotion, painting pictures, and leaving the reader with something despite such brevity is a tremendous skill.

tisserande-d-encre communicates desperation, sorrow, and even some hopelessness in this piece.  When coupled with an acknowledgment of the preciousness, beauty, and impermanence of life--accomplished with the floral metaphor--this makes for a highly successful short piece.

Through the eyes of the world, decay. by wei-en

A short snapshot of decay through the eyes of the world.

wei-en has created an interesting read centered around the ever popular topic of decay, and what man has done to the world. You can almost feel the lethargy of the city at dusk and hear the rain.

We're Looking for a Scare!

Bring out your ghosts and ghouls for our Halloween Special!  All this week we, your fearless admin, will be keeping an eye out for spooky stories or petrifying poetry to bundle together in a seasonal bonanza of creepy work to get you in the mood for a haunting.

If you have any scary stories or spine-tingling poetry you think would be great for a feature we'd love to see them! The more frightening the better!

Silent Walls by Kratofski

When decay and corruption bear irrevocably upon us, cold logic is no company compared to that of another.

"Silent Walls"is a short, creative and easy to read poem exploring the theme of mortality with the underlying conclusion that "nothing lasts forever, so you may as well enjoy it while it lasts".  With its smooth rhymes, vivid imagery, and touching final lines, Kratofski has written a crowd pleaser.

We're recruiting!

We need you! Yes you, all the aspiring admin out there.  We're looking for Lit Scouts, so if you regularly browse through the gallery folders and think you would be a valuable asset to our team, then drop us a note!

As a Lit Scout you would be searching for pieces of lit that you believe would be great for our weekly round-ups! All we ask is that you are mature and can spare a few hours a week to dedicate to the group.  Experience as an admin would be a bonus but it is not necessary.  If you love reading then we'd love having you.  Just send your application to monstroooo or Sleyf
