Every week, we collect and feature the outstanding submissions to our gallery. If you're looking for quality literature to read, start here!

Each item is hand-picked by our admins and presented with a small introduction (we think this makes browsing literature easier). We don't seek perfection: we just choose interesting work and share it for critique, appreciation and encouragement.

Sins and curses are the theme this week, with a nod to epic poetry, original legends, and folklore. But even if you're not familiar with the inspiration, all of these features are well worth reading on their own merits.

This Week's Features!

Inferno Canto XXX.V by LuckySlugger

Inferno rewritten using the Terza Rima scheme. A fitting tribute to Dante Alighieri.

Well written and true to the original, this adaptation of Inferno is a feat of skill and dedication. Clocking in at 1150 words, this is a worthwhile for anyone interested in structured poetry.

Lunatic by MetalMagpie

Charlotte is currently the most interesting case in Bethlem Royal Hospital, but her doctor is about to regret picking out her file.

With a great voice and steady pace, it's easy to get wrapped in Charlotte's perspective in this short story. This is a refreshing read, and there's something in it for fans of etymology as well.

From the Archive

We love our older pieces as much as the new, so here's something we've dug out of are archives that deserves another look.

Mary by August-Green

A new twist to a well-known myth, Mary dies alone with nothing but her reflection for company, leaving behind rumour and the cries of "Bloody Mary".

August-Green took an old myth and brought it into the present day with some great descriptions and imagery. Written from the perspective of a detective investigating the death of an old woman, "Mary" explores the obsession of one woman and her fading beauty.
