Every week, we collect and feature the outstanding submissions to our gallery. If you're looking for quality literature to read, start here!

Each item is hand-picked by our admins and presented with a small introduction (we think this makes browsing literature easier). We don't seek perfection: we just choose interesting work and share it for critique, appreciation and encouragement.

The first week of August has brought out the somber side of us it seems.
This Round-up will explore personal relationhips between parents and children, and siblings who have yet to meet one another, delving into the dark recesses of real-life issues such as prostitution, abortion, and estrangement

This Week's Features!

brothel by wispy-blue

You'll never look at this old nursery rhyme the same again
Warning!  Mature Content!  Reader discretion is advised

Taking something old and restyling or rewriting it in a new way is always worthy of a look-in. wispy-blue has taken a well known nursery rhyme and given it a poignant and sinister make-over, transecting it with a second poem I think we will all recognise, and creating a twisted taxidermy of nursery rhymes.

words, tears, and dandelions by SourAir

There's a wall between father and daughter, but can a letter on a crumpled piece of paper bridge that gap?

SourAir weaves a tragic scene with poetic language and a couple of nods to the presentation of a hand written letter. An innocent past now only exists in faded memories, but through those memories it can still affect the present.

Community News

:bulletpink: In honour of the release of her fourth book "No One Special's Fairy Tales Collection I" NoOneSpecial75 is holding a contest in which you (yes you) can win a free autographed copy!  All you have to do is guess how many pages are in the book!
For more information on how to guess and all the rules, please visit this blog

:bulletpink: In the spirit of DLDs this month betwixtthepages is opening a DLD Suggestions Contest.  It's easy, all you have to do is suggest two pieces you believe are worthy of a DLD, one to betwixtthepages and one to any of the DLD admins!
For more information please visit this blog

Requiem by Psyghostis

Sometimes the choices we make effect those around us more than we think
Warning!  Mature Content!  Reader discretion is advised

Psyghostis addresses abortion and all those effected by it for a different standpoint: a personal one.

We're Looking for Volunteers

Yes we are!  If you have a few spare hours a week that you think you'd like to donate in helping us out, then why not think about becoming a Gallery Moderator?
The tasks involved would be:
:bulletpink: Voting on gallery submissions as they come in via the queue
:bulletpink: Ensuring that all lit is submitted to the correct folder
:bulletpink: Maintaining the group's rules concerning submissions.
:bulletpink: You may even suggest any pieces you think would be great for the Weekly Round-up! (this however is not a must, our Lit Scouts are responsible for that!)
Alternatively, if you regularly read through group submissions and think you'd be a brilliant asset to the team, then perhaps you'd like to volunteer as a Lit Scout?
This position requires a lot more dedication to weekly hours put into the group, however you contribute to putting together the Weekly Round-Up!
The tasks involved would be:
:bulletpink: Reading as many submissions as you are able to and suggesting the strongest of the week to put forward as a feature in the Round-up
:bulletpink: Reasonable blurb writing skills are required for this (but not expert, we all contribute to helping with them), also, the ability to think analytically about a piece and pick out its strengths and what makes it stand out, are also appreciated.
If you think you would like to step up and apply for the position, please send Sleyf a note.
