Bored of the usual grind, the Magister Chopin and his fighter companion Carson head to the dangerous Lostlorn forest.

~TeenageBeatnik takes a shot at humour and lands a critical hit in this short story. Its success owes much to snappy, quick-fire dialog and a nice interplay between character and narrative. Fans of online gaming will love the setting of the story and enjoy the in-jokes; but the story is accessible enough for anyone to enjoy.

It's always nice when you come across something unique, something rare. This piece blurs the line between poetry and prose: it's poetry for the beat generation, begging to be read out loud. Beyond its composition, the piece also stands out because it's emotional, vunerable and engrossing - with a killer final line.

Defective by

Chad is enjoying the last dregs of summer, hanging out and spending some time with his beloved car. Until, that is, a mysterious whistling threatens the peace of the afternoon...

We've never featured a lycanthropic story before in our Roundups, so this short piece seems a good place to start. =JoeyLiverwurst has created an enjoyable short story which tells the story of a werewolf in American suburbia. It greatly benefits from a light touch of humour, deftly added to ease the story along.

The Angel of Choice by

In the digital wastes of cyberspace, a voice calling itself "the Angel of Death" is persuading people to take their own lives. The police are baffled, completely clueless in their attempts to stop the freightening slew of deaths. But the hacker Dave/null knows a few things the police don't, and embarks on his own course to bring down the Angel of Death.

There's an awful lot to be said about this complex short story - far too much to cover in this space here. The simplest description is that it's an intelligently realised psychological sci-fi story. Sadly, the translation occasionally makes for difficult reading... but we assure you, it's worth bearing with. Seldom is sci-fi so involved, so well thought-out, as it appears here: for those looking for some more cerebral storytelling, this is an absolute gem.
